Living Near Nature: Parks Within Walking Distance of Surge Homes' Midtown Developments

Houston's Inner Loop is a densely packed section of the city. Between the built structures, however, beautiful green stretches of land lay in wait for visitors.

Some of the best of these parks can be found steps away from The Isabella at Midtown and Parc at Midtown. The latter community has its own unique and exclusive 5,000 square- foot park for residents and their guests to enjoy. For additional nearby options, here are a few parks within walking distance.

Bagby Park
Renovated in 2014, Bagby Park features 30,000 square feet of open space with a food kiosk, a dog run and live performances. Free events are offered weekly at the park every month, such as Yappy Hour, Live at Lunch and Midtown in Motion – to name a few. You won’t miss the park with its distinctive, 10-foot tall letters serving as a landmark for visitors.

Elizabeth Baldwin Park
Century-aged live oak trees line the pathways of this park. The tree branches provide welcome shade from the unforgiving summer sun. Park-goers have picnic tables, chess tables and sidewalks at their disposal. Houston's Vietnamese-American population is honored with a memorial heritage center. For athletic visitors, a jogging trail and soccer field are available.

Elizabeth Glover Park
Listed as one of “The 10 Best Dog Parks in Houston” by the Houston Press, this location attracts busy pet owners looking for a spot to enjoy with their best friends. Dogs enjoy running on bark chips that cover the ground in a gated area. Humans can partake in exercise at the park as well, with a bocce ball area and an exercise platform that can be used to practice activities such as yoga.

Midtown Park
Also known as the Superblock, this mixed-use space is expected to be completed by the end of the year. In addition to a public park, the six-acre facility will include conveniences such as a retail plaza complete with a restaurant and kiosk, as well as an underground garage with 400 parking spaces. The park furthermore features a playground, a dog run, an art walk and an artificial bayou. Visitors also will can enjoy performances at a pavilion and stage area visible from the lawn, which will accommodate 3,000 guests.

While larger spaces like Hermann Park and Memorial Park are well known throughout the region, Midtown's parks are some of the best kept secrets in Houston.
